Why I Switched To ConvertKit From Mailchimp

A few people who have been following my YouTube channel have been asking why I switched to ConvertKit from Mailchimp.

The answer is simple: it’s my favorite email marketing platform for creators.

Through the years as a copywriter, I’ve tested almost every email marketing platform out there. I would say most of them are fine and get the job done. Write email -> send email. Done.

However, when it’s time to level-up your marketing game, you’re going to need more advanced tools to help you.

One thing I’ve been obsessed with this year is the need to save time and it’s no secret that email marketing takes a lot of effort. I want to be able to send welcome and sales emails on autopilot so I can spend more time on the projects that matter.

Why I switched to ConvertKit from Mailchimp

There are a few reasons why I switched, and we’ll deep dive some of my main reasons.

Easy funnel creation process

One of the top things I love about ConvertKit is how easy it is to make automated sequences.

For my business, I really wanted the ability to have people sign up for my email marketing and hear from me over the course of a month.

I will call myself out here and say that one of my worst traits was only emailing my own audience a few times a year even though I’m religious about at least bi-weekly emails for my copywriting clients.

Having an automated sequence would take that pressure off as people sign up. They’ll simply hear from me on autopilot for the first month.

A fresh start with my email list

Another appealing part of switching to ConvertKit was the thought of being able to start over.

I’d had my email list that I promoted (barely) for years. Most of the people on the list were inactive or hadn’t heard from me in quite some time, so I just wanted to start this new list off with a fresh start.

The thought of being able to start over on the right foot was exactly what I needed. I took the time to set up a month’s worth of autoresponders going out every Tuesday and Thursday to introduce my best ideas to my audience.

Note: If you do choose to move your list over, they have an excellent conversion option where you can bring your Mailchimp audience over to your new ConvertKit email list.

ConvertKit is easy to use for non tech-savvy people

Let’s take a look at my simple email sequence:

15 people are currently working their way through the sequence and over 100 have finished the whole cycle since I signed up.

Another reason I was happy to switch to ConvertKit was the fact of how easy it was to set up.

I only had to watch a video or two for some technical tweaks to make sure I set it up right, but outside of that, the sequence was incredibly easy to create.

I’m not someone who has extensive graphic design or technology knowledge to create something intense. I just wanted information-packed emails that were helpful for my audience.

Of course, if you want beautiful emails with tons of design, that’s easy to do with ConvertKit as well! I just want creatives to know how easy it is to use, with or without that skillset.

There are also email templates and template funnels to get yourself set up or ways you can customize your sequences based on what your readers do (such as buying a product).

Easy to understand analytics

The analytics are incredibly easy to understand as well. You don’t need complicated graphs and charts to figure out where people are unsubscribing.

Here’s how mine look for the brand new opt-in I created:

Other things ConvertKit offers creatives

Email sequences was one of the top reasons I joined ConvertKit, but don’t think that’s all they have to offer. Let’s go over some other things ConverKit can do for you.

Selling your products

If you sell any kind of digital products, ConvertKit helps make it easy. That means you can start selling right away as long as you have an email list without the need for a fancy website. You can simply keep everything under one roof.

Virtual tip jars

If you’re someone who just wants to write awesome content without worrying about products, webinars, or all the other business to do’s so many of us need to check off these days, you can create a virtual tip jar. That gives your audience a chance to support you so you can keep creating amazing content without worrying about anything else.

Various plans for where you are

The best part about ConvertKit is that they have a great free plan. Lots of creatives I know don’t have the finances yet to invest in their business, so it’s great to have this option.

I upgraded my plan to have access to the sequences, but the free plan offers:

  • Unlimited landing pages

  • Unlimited forms

  • Unlimited email sending (a dream, truly)

  • Audience tagging and segmentation

  • Sell digital products and subscriptions

  • Community support

It’s easy to upgrade or downgrade, depending on what you need out of your email marketing.
